Dress your berry best

Summer is here, and along with it comes all kinds of yummy summer fruit like strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and cherries.  Is it any wonder that berry shades are so in vogue for summer?  Last week I met Today fashion stylist Bobbie Thomas at a blog event, where she was giving tips to attendees on how to make the most of this season's hottest colors that work from season to season, and look great on women of all shapes and sizes.  Here are 3 pieces of advice I loved:

1)  Shop in your own closet first; chances are, you already own something in a nice, summery shade.

2) Invest in classic pieces that work from season to season and year to year, but pair them with something fresh and unexpected.  For the summer, white jeans are a must!

3)  Finally, cap off your outfit with a trendy accent.  Go for bright accessories such as bright belts, bangles, sunglasses or necklaces.  These can be much less expensive, and you can give them away without a guilty conscience once the color trend fades!

Here's a photo of Bobbie with her latest fashion muse, Lilac City Momma's sweet little Baby A!  That's me with my back to the camera; note how my berry-colored blouse dovetails perfectly with the berry shades that Bobbie was showcasing (including her own gorgeous dress!).  I bought the blouse in September and paired it with white jeans, and I did that before hearing Bobbie's 3 pieces of advice!  Makes me feel all fashion forward :)

For my shape I am best highlighting a bit of cleavage and accenting my waist. Since I am not particularly tall, a shorter hem line is ideal.
